And who was the companion who introduced you to glitches, or the first companion you met who knew that glitches exist? Tell the story of noobie you!

I was on bedrest for a couple of weeks and was soooo bored. One day I looked through my kids’ PS4 games and found this one called Journey. It looked interesting so I fired it up, playing offline because I didn’t like online multiplayer games. I loved every minute of it, even though I was so bad at everything. I immediately played again. And again. And again. After a few days I had the courage to meet a companion, and was amazed at how you could feel such a bond with a stranger! At first I would avoid any white cloaks, as they were always faceplanting and trying to show me glitches and I didn’t want anything to ruin my immersion in the story of the game :) I really thought that seeing “behind the scenes” was going to ruin the incredible emotion I was feeling (and they seemed so creepy, perched up on the bridge like crows watching my every move). The times that I did follow my companion oob (because I never wanted to leave them), it was very scary and stressful for me. I didn’t understand what the camera was doing, or where it was safe to land, or where we were going, or how to tell my companion I wasn’t ready for that. I hated it. The companion who changed everything for me was a friendly white cloak who seemed to understand I didn’t want to go oob. There was no stress, they were so happy and fun, stuck by my side until the end and drew me my first ever heart in the snow. I cried and couldn’t stop thinking about it for hours. I waited excitedly to see their name.... it was Roco. The next day I met Banga and Zimask, and for the first time enjoyed going oob. They were so patient and kind and caring, and really opened my eyes to the beauty and fun to be had there. I bumped into Zimask again, and came away 7 hours later with my eyes opened and a new love affair for zen-jumping :) That was four months ago, so I’m still a noobie! But I’ve been so lucky to share fun times with many amazing companions especially Ava, Gilorien, Para, Fruhling, Artistica, Robin, Beev and Apno And to meet such nice people in this community, who make me smile so much. Thank you!!

I actually discovered Journey after playing through another TGC game, Flower. I was told that Flower was a very beautiful, yet at times very emotional game. I decided to give it a shot, and I adored it! A friend of mine suggested giving Journey a try, as it was their newest game, seemed popular, and even had multiplayer.
I tried the demo, and fell in love! Though I didn't get around to purchasing the game until several months later (I got the Return trophy after booting up too, haha). My friend I mentioned prior got it as well, and we decided to meet up and play through our first Journey together!
We went in pretty blind, outside of the whole multiplayer factor. The game was pretty populated so it took several tries to finally meet. But once we did, hoooooo boy was it blast! I still remember the first time I saw the sunset at the end of the SC hallway, seeing my first WM (thought there would be a boss fight), the dreaded death march, and finally reaching Paradise.
It was then that my addiction began! I played it almost every day, sometimes several times a day. After a few weeks, I got to experience OOB in several levels, thanks to a random companion. I think SC and UG in particular. SC was nice, but UG wasn't as fun. We may have gone OOB in Snow as well, but I am not certain.
When we got to the UG, my companion was very quick to move around and I wasn't sure what places were safe to go to. Like I thought there were bottomless pits, haha. Eventually my companion must have gotten frustrated because they stopped being patient and didn't even bother to make sure I was following! I think I eventually finished the game with them, but I was left with a bit of a sour experience.
Despite the rocky OOB encounter, I slowly grew more interested in glitches, and eventually decided to register at the original TGC forum. From there I got to meet so many awesome companions, learn the ins and outs of various glitches and tricks, and I was ultimately shaped into the player I am today!

I believe I found out about Journey from the PlayStation Home space dedicated to it, and it looked interesting to me. I had never heard of TGC before this or played flOw and/or Flower.
My first playthrough wasn't anything special, because I had at least 8 different companions for the whole thing, so I didn't get the full emotional impact I feel I could have. That was not the case for my second playthrough, where I think I was with the same person for the whole run, and the whole Paradise segment and ending had me in tears, which is when I began to love the game.
My memory's not fine enough to remember details such as the one companion or who introduced me to glitches, but I learned everything from my months of lurking on the forum.

dude i am so thankful to roco for being careful companion and not dragging you oob! thanks to her you are one uf us one of us! :D whoa arty! i always had this subtle thought that playing journey with a friend on a first spoils it a bit because its not with a randon, so not an intended experience. i change my mind now, haha! great story! i am sorry your glitching companion was inconsiderate about you :-/ inf i am glad you had nice second playthrough! crying in paradise with a good companion is timeless classic
I discovered journey in 2012 and i had "i want to play it" fever for a long time, but i had no hope of getting any ps3 in my posession, and after some time i forgot. then four years later my life companion suggested me to play this "nice PS+ free game" (september 2016 sale) first playthrough was my mom and me sitting side by side, me playing, her watching. i never played games and it was the first time i was holding a controller in hands, so it was a very difficult game for me! underground and snow was so scary and hard that i handed the controller to my life companion. on the windy balconies we connected to a companion, and i remember thiking that this is an NPC ^^ by the end of the first journey both me and my mom were crying like whales, hahaha! back then i did not have a concept of replaying a game, so i replayed it only several days later when my life companion said that i can get a white robe. i searched for a youtube vid and got my white robe on a second playthrough, while remaining a bloody noobie i met The companion on my third playthrough. they were undescribably patient with me! i couldnt fly, i couldnt operate my camera or control my wayfarer well, but they taught me to care of each other, to fly together, to wiggle and to scarfhug, and near the light my heart was ripping apart from the thought that this journey has to end. unfortunately i weren't saving names at that time. After that i was looking if there's more to joutney than just trophies and found glitching videos on youtube, and faceplant tutorial. stortly after i met beev! he spent a lot of time with me in bb and i succeeded my first faceplant with him! i was so happy! beev left me in bb hl, but we met again a day or two later and went through the whole game. i was very grateful but had no idea that psn messages exist, so i googled his name and found him on twitch. and this is how i found the community

I discovered Journey through Felix's (PewDiePie) playthrough on youtube and just immediately fell in love with this game. I began to look for information and found out that this is an exclusive for ps3, I thought that I would never be able to play it, so time went and I kinda forgot about it. My brother has a ps+ subscription and in one of the months Journey was given away for free, at that moment my tears of joy were heard in the Himalayas ahaha! I coulnd't belived it and I was so happy! It was surprise for me as well, since I didn't know which games they will add at that month. It was 2016 when I started to play,I wandered around the game, helping others, then I started hunt for glyphs and afterwards I opened all the achivments, by myself. I joined to the community after 5th Journey anniversary. I saw the old forum only once, but didn't had opportunity to look up closely. I can't say with certainty who was the very first person who to took me into the oob, but I tend to it was Pipim (I looked for my old screenshots and apparently my first meeting with fancy flyer was with West ) I was in red robe, when Pipim started to taking me to different places (probably my first oob was in SC, I loved it so much, the veiw was amazing, I kept visiting that place alone, by climbing rocks, I didn't know about other enterance near with statue for a long time). If you're just starting to play Journey, Pipim is a perfect teacher and companion for newcomers. She gives commands by chirps really clearly, you know when to jump/follow, she'll always make sure, that you're aware of your next movement. So it was really easy and helpful to play with her, you just need to pay attention to what she is trying to say At the end of our journey she drew me a heart (no one did that before) and I cried so hard, that was an amazing feeling! I met her 26.11.16. Since then I started to meet all kinds of people, if you want to see me as a noobie you can watch video called "Travel with Puhckin's sister" where I just standing and looking at Nico, while he does all tricks lol

I sadly don't remember the exact details of my first Journey, but I think I had one companion for the whole first run. Back in 2013 I was going through severe depression, and felt like I needed to try Journey out after having heard about it since 2012. Fired it up and fell in love, it became a form of therapy for me. One of the first people I ever met was Flokati, she told me she had met me first under a different name and then later on her main ID. She showed me the ropes and taught me most of the fancy flying techniques and glitches that had been discovered at the time, and simply gave me warm scarfhugs again and again that I needed very much. I will never forget her kindness and patience

the only regret that i have about not sartting playing earlier is that there's no accidental meetings with flotaki in 2016-18 i am hearing so much good stuff about her, and i think we could have enjoyed each other's company, but alas, alas! at least i can enjoy all the great stories :D its amazing that she was the first companion to show you around, simi, what a good way to discover glitches and flying! ^^

The story of noobie me is actually a long story of almost a year. I played Journey at its release on PS3 in march 2012. I was waiting for it since I had played flower. I fell immediately in love with this game and with its ability to create strong link with an unknown person. I had a very moving experience in April 2012 with a player who emailed TGC and I for explain he had lost a close family member and felt the journey with me like a kind of therapy. That's made me definitely realize Journey can be much more than a game. I kept played it regularly during the year 2012, at this time I was on a little French forum with Sunkencity and few others. We were lurking on the TGC forum and trying to understand the new glitches they were talking about. My quiet little life of noobie-journeyer deeply changed in the first few months of 2013 when I met three great journeyers. At this point I knew a bit about the OOBs, I was able to clumsy charge-boost and I had already met few others glitchers. But I really understood what a full glitching journey experience was when I met Domi for the first time. His behavior and knowledge was fantastic! Among others things, he taught me the coasting in the gorgeous SC sky. I stopped being a lurker and I wrote my first post on the TGC forum for thanks him. I started to play the game very intensively, to become a BB resident and consequently to meet often Artistica and Ryu ichi Aten. Artistica just blew my mind with his flying stunts. Nowadays, it seems almost normal to see a player doing such flying stunts in the BB, but at this time it was really innovative and impressive! He patiently taught me the art of fancy-flying and believe me this was a hard work. Ryu ichi Aten also showed me many things about glitchs and flying at this period. In addition, the fact that these three great players had three really different ways of playing has opened my mind to the diversity of fun experiences we can share in Journey. You all can blame them, it a bit their fault if I'm still here!

I'm not sure how I first heard of Journey, but it was around the time it was released and I found the demo in the PSN store for free. Me and my roommates were broke and bored so I fired it up but wasn't really that engaged. So we played more God of War or Skyrim or whatever.
Several years later I was living alone in a new place where I didn't know anyone and my life and headspace really weren't in a great place. I again was broke and bored and it was Christmas time; I went to a gamestop to buy some used games for nephews and found the Journey Collector's edition used, so I picked it up as well (buy 2 get 1 free baby).
I went home and eventually played through the game. I'm generally a collectaholic and decided when I started the game to not worry about finding all the things, I just wanted to experience the game. I never expected what a profound emotional experience I would end up having. Yes, I cried. I reflected on so many things in my life I had been avoiding dealing with, all the disappointments and losses of life, but with that came a newer understanding that life's still happening and there's much more to enjoy if I could just learn to let go.
So after that, I saw the "New Journey" option and thought why not, I'll try to explore more. I sat down in BB for a bit and happened to see the "Connect to PSN" message :o I had completely forgotten it was an online game! I went online and started running into other players; I don't remember who I met or what we did, but it was enough to keep me entertained. I soon began meeting some of the regulars, learned how to fancy fly, was led around out of bounds, and saw lots of amazing things.
After watching lots of youtube videos, reading posts on the old forum, and flying with some great new friends, I started leading and teaching others. But in time I got a bit discouraged thinking "there's nothing left to discover, people have played for years and found all these great sights and tricks and there's nothing left that hasn't been done already..."
And then one fateful day I found Domi streaming a modded version of the game; my fascination was reborn and I wanted to know how it worked, how could I do that? Maybe I could finally do something that's never been done before. It took a long time, but I finally have a few new tricks under my belt, and I just want to teach others so they can see what I've seen ;)

I had gotten my ps3 in November of 2011 and wanted to build up a library. I heard about Journey a few weeks before its release on the gaming forum I frequented back then and it sounded interesting. I picked it up a week before it's official release but didn't play it immediately. I put if off for one day.
I had never played online before and I was very nervous about that aspect of the game, but as it turned out I had nothing to worry about.
I don't remember a great deal about my first Journey except that I wasn't particularly interested in Companionship. I wanted to explore and discover things for myself. I did the usual noob things: wandered around aimlessly, tumbled against windwalls, got caught like a deer in the headlights by the Ambush Room WM, hurt my thumb pushing against my left stick for the entire length of the Death March (alone), raced through Paradise.
I apparently enjoyed Journey enough to come back for more. I think it was on my 3rd or 4th Journey that I had The Journey. The one that got me emotionally. I don't know who my Companion was. I don't remember any specific event. But I had The Journey Experience that kept and keeps us all coming back.
That was close to 2000 Journeys ago. I've lost track. I don't play anywhere near as often as I did in those first few years, but I will always come back to Journey, and I am always eager to watch the many, many good friends I've met through Journey stream their Journeys.

My daughter introduced me Journey in 2013, but at that time i was much too busy and stressed to consider playing video games, in fact, I'd never even held a controller. I could see that the game was lovely, but i barely spent any time watching. Fast forward to January 2016. All our kids had moved out, and i had spent HOURS watching my spouse play destiny. I developed an interest in the possibility of playing a video game, but wanted Nothing to do with combat! So i tried Flower. All was great until that last chapter, lol. The power lines really made me anxious. I spent 10 minutes playing Fl0w, and also found myself getting anxious. So finally, i tried Journey. The pace of the game was perfect. Note: i didn't meet a single companion during my first playthrough. I knew i was supposed to look for the shiny symbolS, so i explored every inch of every level. After playing the second time, i decided to "research" the location of the 2 symbols i was unable to find. What i also found was a fantastic set of tutorials by ILIVETOWRITE on YouTube. I was introduced to fancy flying techniques before i had even earned my white robe! My interest in this game spiked, and i searched for anything i could find on journey. I played frequently and met the most wonderful, patient, and hilarious companions! I laughed constantly at the silliness, and was constantly filed with wonder and gratitude. I think i discovered Twitch in late March, and was able to watch my idol (ILTW) playing journey. In her streams, i met so many of the people (in chat) that are very dear to me even today. Though i have finally branched out a bit and have played a few more games, Journey is the game of my heart, and the community of regulars (whether in game or in chat) brought laughter and warmth to me during a very difficult period of my life. I would love to thank some very special companions and chat friends, but honestly, there's not enough room on the forum! FYI, i have maintained a spreadsheet of all companions (except if there was a crash or i had to CS) since January 2016. #ImaJourneyNerd Thank you all for playing Journey... My motto is "there should always be at least 1 journey stream at all times". ;)

I first heard about Journey in a TGA "The Game Awards" nomined and winner, I don't remember which Award was it but I remember that I falled in love with the little bit that I seen about journey. Very soon I got my colector edition cd with flow, flower and journey to start playing! 2013 was the year that I fall in love for sure! And this passion still goes on, forever! In my first playthrough I was discovering more and more how fun is to find a companion and finish the journey with them! Until I got all my simbols and decorate them, I finally had my white clothe and then I started to learn some glitches, how to boost flying, and the backstage entrances with some awesome companions! I remember the first time when a japonese girl showed me how to sit and then wait for her to pushed me to slide through the mountains in the paradise level, I really feeled the awesome life player experience that journey shows to us with a companion that doesn't said a word, but shows you the world! A masterpiece definely! As more that I played I learned how to do a thousand glitches and tricks and for that I still playing every night to feel peaceful and grateful to find this beautiful game!

At this point my memories of that time are pretty sketchy. However a few details are still there. It was the first online game though maybe not the first runthrough for me. I think I was in the snow fields with a WC. I don't remember exactly when I connected with that player, but what I do remember is the kindness shown. He (or she, at the time I assumed that player was a female) did a faceplant which kind of shocked me. Also she lead me around showing me things. I do remember following but at this point don't know where. She was very chirpy, very friendly in an obvious way. I was amazed that so much could be conveyed.
I remember another game I played not long after that first one. Again I had connected with someone. It was obvious that we were both noobs. And again we're in the snow fields, towards the start of it. I don't think either one of us wanted to go down the middle. And it was obvious that we were both terrified of the WMs. In those days I called them flying monsters. Anyway, not down the middle, we went along the right edge. We had progressed up to the bend to the right and if we could have grabbed onto each other in that virtual world, then I think we would have. I remember that player having this start stop behavior in trying to progress, then quickly running back into me. At this point I draw a blank. I assume one of the war machines got us. I do know that for a long time I would not go along that right edge. Also, I so wanted to take another journey with that person, it was pretty intense. Lost though. I didn't know yet about the "companions met along the way list".
